SAMSUNG Electronics, in partnership with KT, introduces the first ever evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Services or eMBMS in the entire world. So far, the eMBMS works for Galaxy Note 3 and KT’s LTE subscribers.
Teaming up with KT, SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd introduces the first commercial evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service or eBMBS in the world. In order to complete the eBMBS, SAMSUNG teamed up with KT for network solutions and equipment necessary for the rollout of the service. The service is available to all of the LTE subscribers of KT and users of SAMSUNG Galaxy Note 3 starting January 27, 2014.
SAMSUNG and KT have long been working together towards the completions of the LTE eMBMS. The network equipment and device solutions have actually been showcased before when they were still at the initial stage. The world was able to catch a glimpse of the LTE eMBMS technology services the previous year at the 2013 Mobile World Congress. And after the success of the development of eMBMS, SAMSUNG plans to continuously fortify its partnership with KT and join the company in its marketing campaigns. SAMSUNG hopes to seek more collaboration with other global mobile operators in order to further the promotions of the LTE eMBMS solutions.
A new LTE technology, the eMBMS provides multiple users with efficient and simultaneous access to HD quality video service, improving the multimedia consumptions experience of users. Powered by the advanced network equipment solutions of SAMSUNG while being adapted to the LTE network of KT, ‘Olleh LTE Play’ service is considered the very first LTE eMBMS in the whole world. This eMBMS can be used through KT Olleh mobile IP TV application. And for Galaxy Note 3 users to also enjoy this service, they would only need to download a software upgrade.

The new LTE eMBMS is impressive if users know how to maximize its use. Some of the benefits that the users can enjoy include:
- Similar with Digital Media Broadcasting (DMB) or radio services, it can provide service to a lot of subscribers all at the same time without the risk of disconnection or delays.
- Compared to the standard DMB, it offers considerably higher video quality while at the same time mitigating the network congestion of the operator.
- It provides users access to several broadcast cameras, without the risk of disconnection and delay, and at various angles, which will be ideal of densely populated areas like concert halls or sports stadiums.
Samsung Electronics Mobile Sales Team for Korea Senior Vice President Jongjin Lee said, “Equipped with a large, vivid display and powerful performance, Samsung Galaxy devices are the ideal platform for innovative mobile technology solutions like LTE eMBMS. The commercialization of the LTE eMBMS technology through our cutting-edge network solutions will set us apart from others and pave the way for us to offer the latest and the most advanced LTE technologies and products to our customers.”
