The collaboration of SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd and Akamai Technologies, Inc. resulted to a demo of excellent methods towards mobile web content improvement. This is specifically important to areas like e-commerce and online banking.

It cannot be denied that with the increase in the resolution of images and videos, mobile web content turned heavier and more complicated. In addition to this, demand for the smart devices’ media traffic also increased, which led to unpleasant service quality and more network congestion cost. Due to these situations and environments, mobile operators want to have better methods in dealing with content delivery, so as to improve user experience in their networks. And this is where SAMSUNG and Akamai’s demonstration comes in play. With the aim to cater to mobile operators’ needs, both companies worked on developing better mobile content delivery that will lead to better loading time for web pages, despite the network environment’s congestion.
The demonstration serves as a concept proof. It highlighted the advantage of the improved online content and business applications. At the same time, mobile traffic prioritization was also highlighted in the demo through allowing mobile operators to focus on premium contents’ delivery first over their network. With these changes, the resulting benefits are the following:
- More Stable and faster mobile web access
- Improved user experience
- More efficient web page content delivery over mobile networks
Besides the mobile traffic prioritization technology, SAMSUNG also used the company’s Smart CacheTM, SAMSUNG’s mobile caching solutions. With the combination of the technology and SAMSUNG Smart CacheTM, network bandwidth usage and network latency will be reduced and minimized, resulting to better service quality for the end-users. This combination will also allow mobile service providers to be capable of offering content providers with premium services and a Service Level Agreement or SLA for their services.
Samsung Electronics Networks Business Senior Vice President and Head of System Innovation Lab Jungah Choi believes that the mobile operators see the mobile web activities’ drastic growth in areas like e-commerce and baking. Furthermore, he said, “Mobile content delivery solutions and traffic prioritization over the mobile network will develop into a key differentiator for mobile operators in smart device era. Recently, Samsung is focusing on developing innovative solutions for mobile content delivery such as Smart CacheTM and mobile delivery acceleration technologies. Our solutions will not only provide superior mobile user experience by minimizing network latency, but will also open up possibilities for a variety of new business opportunities between the mobile operators and the content providers.”
