“Global View: Business Video Conferencing Usage and Trends” Survey Results on Business Communications Tool

Polycom showed results in the surveyed entitled “Global View: Business Video Conferencing Usage and Trends”. The results show the important of video conferencing and its continuous rise in use among businesses across different industries. 

Polycom, Inc. announced some of the major results of the survey entitled, “Global View: Business Video Conferencing Usage and Trends”. In conclusion, results show that out of all the business decision makers, who participated in the survey, 96% is convinced of the positive effects that video conferencing can bring about in business operations. Some of these advantages includes defying the distance between teams in different locations, which in the end improves productivity.

Commissioned by Polycom and conducted by Redshift Research, the “Global View: Business Video Conferencing Usage and Trends” was participated by 1,200 and more business decision makers, in diverse industries and locations. Generally, the survey directs towards video conferencing being an important communication and collaboration tools that bridges the gap between distance and culture. This is particularly evident in the Asia Pacific region.

Video Conferencing as a Universal Business Communications Tool

The results of the survey shows that video conferencing is becoming more and more universal across different business globally. When it comes top preferred communications methods, these are the results:

  • Email (89%)
  • Voice/Conference Calls (64%)
  • Video Conferencing (47%)

And for the next three years, here are the most preferred collaboration tools that business decision makers expect:

  • Video (52%)
  • Email (51%)
  • Voice/Conference Calls (37%)

For the participants of the survey who are already making use of video conferencing at the present, they said that there are the three greatest advantages of using that communications tool:

  • Better collaboration between globally dispersed colleagues (54%)
  • Greater clarity of topics being discussed (45%)
  • More efficient meetings (44%) 

In all the participants, 76% claim to use video conferencing at work and 56% of those participants take part in it for about once every week.

According to the survey, more than 67% of the participants in these specific countries use video conferencing a minimum of once every week. These countries include:

  • Brazil
  • India
  • Singapore

In addition to that, in the 83% of the respondents who use video conferencing, 90% are aged 20s and 30s and make use of a consumers video conferencing solutions at home.

Some key factors to making video as popular in the office as it is at home is ensuring it’s easy to use, providing a high quality connection, delivering enterprise-grade security, and participants’ willingness to accept and adapt to cultural differences as they communicate across borders.  We’re seeing businesses around the world defy distance every day using video collaboration, including increasing productivity, enhancing employee engagement, improving time to market and helping to save lives.”

  • The ability to hear everyone clearly (69%)
  • Technology that is straight forward and easy to use (60%)
  • Good eye contact with colleagues/ everyone is clearly visible (58%) 

Most distracting things that should be avoided during video meetings:

  • Mobile phone going off during a meeting (58%)
  • People attending from inappropriate places [e.g., public transit, in stores] (52%)
  • People who are multi-tasking or look distracted [e.g., tapping on keyboard] (51%)
  • Inappropriate background distractions such as colleagues, music, noise (50%)
