Synopsis:

Avaya prepares for a demanding future in the brontobyte era. With Fabric Connect and Fabric Attach to boot, Avaya prides itself with the ability to catch up with the bandwidth-demanding future.

Popular and grand events can surprisingly affect some businesses negatively rather than the other way around. Take for example the World Cup. From mid-June to mid-July of the year 2014, it cannot be help that most of the 64 matches of the tournament fell on weekdays. Its effects were critical than what were expected.

Employees watched the matches through live streaming on different devices like smartphones, tablets and computers to keep up-to-date with the tournament. And this led to an unexpected weight of traffic, straining the legacy networks in the country. In effect, different business functions failed in that time period. Multiple file transfers were unsuccessful and financial transactions were not completed. Video conference calls were disrupted and canceled. Customer service contact centers grunted in defeat as their systems crashed. And the culprit of these disasters is the network, not the applications.

Using switches and myriad boxes, which have been industriously configured one by one manually and connected carefully, legacy networks are not for this era anymore. Slower speeds and cases of outages resulting from heavy traffic, which cannot be handled by the system. And in order to resolve these problems, everything should be done manually all over again and with the help of technicians. Upgrading equipment and adding applications are not that different and will need a planned downtime and careful configurations and testing, respectively. 80% of the companies, which uses a new application for the first time, fails because of wrong configurations resulting to issues in the apps.

Despite the errors and difficulties in setting up networks and apps, the demand in the network continuous to rise. In fact, by 2018, the global IP traffic is estimated to reach up to 131.6 exabytes monthly, with the estimation of 5 exabytes equal to mankind’s every word spoken ever. Imagine this same 5 exabytes will be managed by the world’s network every 28 hours. What lies ahead in the future are zettabytes, yottabytes and brontobytes. And Avaya is preparing for the Brontobyte era, both in appliances and in virtual networking software. The existence of Avaya Fabric Connect is one solid proof of this preparation. If you want to know what more Avaya can offer, visit us here.

A virtualized software-defined network, Avaya Fabric Connect helps companies to prioritize specific applications on the network, which are more useful for business transactions. This will allow important applications to work more effectively and get the appropriate bandwidth they need compared to other apps. And it’s even easy to set up and manage the network since it’s designed to work that way.

Together with the Avaya Fabric Connect, Avaya Fabric Attach can be used in adding network endpoints. Whether it is a new IP-enabled security camera or a router, it will easily and automatically be added. The services needed for the endpoints are also automatically identified.

In the 2014 Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia, both Fabric Connect and Attach were tested when Avaya was arranged to power the grand event. Every gadget and application ran with 99.999% uptime, from every broadcasted live video to every data, from more than 120,000 mobile devices brought by every individual, from staff to athletes and fans, in the event.

In the Brontobyte era, a network is not composed of myriad boxes, which are programmed separately. It is a single entity designed to work wholly and fully. Following the IEEE standards, which Avaya helped authored as they continue to contribute intellectually to OpenStack Consortium and OpenDaylight Project, the architecture of Avaya’s network was created from the ground.

The key to keep up with the demands of bandwidth, which devices today and those which are not invented yet need, is network virtualization. With technology which is flexible and open, despite the different companies’ struggle with the increasing demands, keeping up with it is possible.
