SAMSUNG Solve for Tomorrow Contest Revealed Fifteen Public Schools as National Finalists

SAMSUNG reveals the fifteen winners of the 2015 Solve for Tomorrow Contest who will compete in the National Finals on March 18, 2015. Out of more than 3,100 participants, 15 public schools were chosen to participate in the Finals Round.

SAMSUNG reveals winners for the 2015 Solve for Tomorrow Contest last February 26, 2015. The winners are the 15 public schools, which are from states all over the country, including:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Delaware
  • District of Columbia
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana
  • Mississippi
  • New Hampshire
  • Nevada
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington
  • Wyoming

A national competition with the goal of encouraging people towards the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education, the SAMSUNG Solve for Tomorrow Contest offers a total of $35,000 to the winners. Created way back in year 2010, this contest is expected to also inspire innovations and address the technology gap in the classrooms all over the country.

SAMSUNG Solve for Tomorrow Contest chose 15 teams out of the 3,100 applicants across the country. The teams were chosen based on how they were able to use their STEM skills in addressing a specific issue in their own communities. The topics illustrated and shown in the form of a short video. Some of the topics which the applicants presented were:

  • Ways to address water pollution
  • Mosquito-borne illnesses
  • Urban food deserts

SAMSUNG Solve for Tomorrow Contest does not only offer help for the students in educating themselves and developing STEM skills, while at the same time focusing on important issues in the communities of the United States, it also supports teachers by offering access to lesson plans created by teachers who were also the contest’s past participants. SAMSUNG Solve for Tomorrow National Finals

When: March 18, 2015

Where: Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, New York City

 

A live panel of judges will evaluate the presentation of the different teams. In addition to that, the five national grand prize winners will be chosen through:

  • A panel of judges
  • SAMSUNG employees
  • Public choice through online voting which is open from March 2, 2015 12:01AM EST through March 25, 2015 11:59PM EST at Samsung.com/solve

There will also be three special awards given to teams for their specific use of certain techniques and subjects which are:

  • Math by DIRECTV
  • Environmental innovation by the National Environmental Educations Foundation
  • Civic engagement by Digital Promise

A total of approximately $2 million will be offered to the winners of the competition which will be presented by different companies including:

  • Samsung
  • Adobe
  • DIRECTV
  • Fortune
  • PBS TeacherLine
  • National Environmental Education Foundation
  • Digital Promise

In addition to all these prizes, PBS TeacherLine will provide a professional development class for all teachers who joined the contest.
